Labor Positions Class
Learn birth doula-approved positions for each stage of labor. Explore how to do each position, when in labor is best for each position, pushing-specific positions, how to incorporate your partner, and more.
The Approach
The traditional 9+ hour childbirth education classes that have become so common teach overwhelming amounts of information that can feel impossible to remember. Brandy’s Labor Positions Class is designed to bring you perhaps the most important teachings from childbirth education classes - what to do & when. Hands-on, accessible, and easy-to-remember positions that you can practice right at home before labor even starts.
What you’ll learn:
» An overview of optimal fetal positioning for birth (aka how baby should be positioned for an easier labor)
» The stages of labor and how to help encourage baby to engage, descend, and emerge through the pelvis (as well as how to flip or turn, if needed)
» Hands-on practice with common labor positions and what stage of labor they are most appropriate for
» How to incorporate birth balls, pillows, blankets, & other props into each labor position
» How your partner or birth doula can help
» Positions for laboring in a tub or shower
» Positions for laboring with an epidural in bed
» Pushing-specific positions that work WITH the shape of the pelvis instead of against it (like common “on the back, legs up” position)
Why take a Labor Positions Class?
So much of what we’ve seen about labor in movies and TV shows is incorrect or unhelpful.
Spending the majority of labor reclined in a hospital bed promotes suboptimal positioning of baby in the pelvis which can cause labor to be longer, more painful, and increases the chance of interventions. It also prevents the back of the pelvis from opening fully during pushing which can lead to longer, less efficient pushing phases again with an increase chance of intervention.
Historically women were meant to labor in upright and mobile positions - squatting, hands & knees, rocking, swaying, forward leaning, and side-lying.
Participating in a Labor Positions Class allows you to learn primal & ancestral labor positions while working with modern supports like birth balls, birthing tubs, pillows, and even medical interventions like epidurals.
